Student research:
Does microwaved water harm aquatic life?

Cartoon fish.In order to properly take care of our aquatic charges, selected students were asked to research various topics. We wanted to know how to care for our fish and plant subjects, how to monitor water chemistry (and why it is important to do so), and how to maintain a healthy aquarium. It was also important to know how microwaves heat water so that a fact based hypothesis could be formed. The students conducted research using the internet, then wrote brief summaries of what they had learned. Summaries were edited by an adult for punctuation and accuracy.

Unless stated otherwise, all photographs and drawings within the student weblog articles where created by students. Data tables were filled by students directly online, and graphs were made and posted with adult guidance. Links to the websites providing the original information have been added at the bottom of each article as well as in the resources section of this site.

To the best of our knowledge, all information is accurate. Corrections and comments are welcome. You can post directly under each article, or you can go to our general comments section in the Editor's Weblog.

Links below will become active as students post their work.
