Does microwaved water affect algae growth?

Microwaved water will:

  • cause algae to bloom more than unmicrowaved water - 7 student votes
  • not affect algae growth - 15 student votes

Experiment design:

Overview of procedures:

We will maintain 48 twelve ounce cups with gavel and plant clippings, exposed to light 24 hours a day. We will observe the growth of algae.

  • Sample size: 48 twelve ounce cups of water, gravel, and aquarium plant clippings (24 experiment, 24 control) using the same species of plant.
  • Tap water will be used throughout the experiment. It will be treated with API Tap Water Conditioner to remove chlorine and hard metals.
  • Duration: To be decided - we plan to run the experiment through May.
